Waterloo Engineering Competition

Becoming a Director

There are two types of directors: general and technical.

General directors are responsible for advertising, recruitment, registration, and top-level competition logistics. If you would like to become a general director, you must apply through the Engineering Society website.

Technical directors are responsible for developing competiton problems and ensuring that the competitions run smoothly. Technical background and interest is preferred. If you would like to become a technical director, contact the WEC executive director.

If you would like to gain experience in both areas, you can choose to fulfill both functions. In this case, apply through the Engineering Society website.

Judging is usually done by professors and industry professionals by invitation. However, if you are interested in participating in the judging process, please email a director listed under Contacts.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out with the Waterloo Engineering Competition. Help is especially needed for the junior team design and senior team design categories.

Volunteers will be running the supply booth, which provides competitors with building materials. Volunteers will also occasionally monitor the competitors during their design and build stage, to ensure that the competition runs fairly.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out and submit the form below.
